REVIEW
STORY: A typical kids adventure. We have your
smart alec hero and bumbling villain surrounded by inept minions. Of
course the kid is smarter, faster, and able to kick butt.
ACTING:
The
English voice cast are all well known "anime" voice
actors. While the ADR is a little rough at times, they do a fine
job. Unfortunately, as these are screener copies, we are missing the
Chinese language track. According to our interview with Brian
YuZheng, the original Mandarin audio track will be included in the release
version.
FAN SERVICE: This is a kids story, so no fan serve to be
found here.
CONCLUSION
Mighty Bunch is one "Chinamation" title that kids will love,
but parents will not. It's contrived plot, typical characters, and
slow pacing don't do much for adults. For the kids, the cute hijinks
and comical action will keep them entertained.
Like "Little Monk", this series is a very kid friendly
title. While the main character is a little snot-nosed punk,
he does have his heart in the right place. He wants to please his
uncle, honor his family, and protect the innocent. There is little
violence, and no blood or gore. There is tons of physical comedy
that will have your kids laughing for hours.
With its focus being on the kids, the adults will be left out of the
laughter. There is nothing new or unique about "Mighty
Bunch". The plot is just a re-hash of every kids adventure ever
made. The characters fit the standard formula for kids
television. The acting is over the top, and the physical comedy
isn't that exciting. Also, not a lot happens in these
episodes. By the end of the disc, there is no plot development, no
quest, and no "Mighty Bunch".
The animation is no where as detailed as the other
"Chinamation" titles. However, the style is more natural, more
fluid.
While "Mighty Bunch" is a great one for the
kids, this is ones adults should pass on.
