THE RIGHT STUF INT.

WHAT IS THE RIGHT STUF?

A GENERAL OVERVIEW.

United States, 1987. Anime, hard to find, known only to a select group of fans or recognized as the basis for some of the cartoons we watched after school, hasn't broken into the AMerican mainstream. A small company called "The Right Stuf International" is formed.  Their mission: to distribute the popular 60's anime called "Astro Boy" to the American public.

By 1989, Anime had started to attract new fans, thanks in part to the Streamline Pictures release of the Miyazaki classic "Laputa".  Then  a new company called AnimEigo releases the popular anime "Madox-01".  From 1989 to 1991, several new companies are formed.  Central Park Media, AD Vision, Soft Cell, Pioneer, US Renditions, and LA Hero (now known as  Manga Entertainment).  With an ever increasing market in their sights, The Right Stuf decides to sell and distribute all anime videos.  By offering 10% off all subtitled items, they quickly become the favorite source of otaku in the know.

As the market expanded, so did the The Right Stuf.  Not content with just selling anime, they begin to produce their own.  Their first release, "Towards the Terra" became a huge seller. Others titles followed, (Godmars, Legend of the Forest) and  met with limited success.  Then came the release of "Irresponsible Captain Tylor". The Right Stuf showed anime fans, and the media market, what they could do.

Recognizing a growing interest in merchandise as well as videos, the now infamous "The Right Stuf Catalog" was launched in 1989.  The first "catalog" only had 4 items. As more products became available, the catalog continued to expand.  Along with one of the best selections of anime related merchandise, The Right Stuf began to supplement the catalog with cultural and technological information, viewer recommendations, and money saving coupons.  Now, at over 200 pages, it is the most eagerly anticipated anime publication of the year.

In an on-going series of interviews, we will take you on an in depth tour of this company.  With a full complement of web resources, an ever growing associates program and their ever increasing inventory. The Right Stuf is the place for anime.  Let's face it, if Right Stuf doesn't have, it probably can't be found!!
