SUMMARY

Welcome to the world of import car racing!

Your host is Candice Kita.  In the next 70 minutes, you will visit the world of import car modification and racing.  You'll see racers from different divisions compete for money and respect.  Yes sir...hot cars and even hotter women, all at the push of a remote control button!  You can ride along with Skyn and Dreds(if you dare), two car nuts who chase racers down.  You can even get to see some of the people who make the parts to turn your Dad's old Corolla into a true Hachiroku!

So buckle up and enjoy Street Fury Gold.

DVD VISION TEST

VIDEO: The transfer is great.  No pixels, digital rainbows or color bleeds.  The scenes at night are crisp and clear.  The only defects are from the source material.

AUDIO: The 2.0 audio is fine, with no hiss or audible noise.  The dialogue is center speaker based, with the music from the sides.

EDITS: As with any documentary, there are things that get cut out.  However, this is just as the creators wanted.

EXTRAS: Well, while technically they are extras, they really are not.  The "Bonus Footage" is a montage of scenes in the movie.  The galleries are scenes taken from the film, then redone with some cheep effects.  Since when did trailers become extras?

WIDESCREEN REVIEW

STORY: Well, as this isn't fiction, there is no story.  This is a pretty well rounded documentary.  It's obvious that the makers of this film know a lot about street racing and import car modification.  The people they interview are not just "wannabees", but dedicated racers who really believe in what they do.

ACTING: Well, there aren't really any actors here, just real people and their love of cars.  Candice is the perfect spokes model.  She is hot, intelligent, speaks authoritatively, and with just the right amount of playful sexuality. The interview subjects all are very comfortable in front of the camera.  There were not a lot of "uhhhs".

FAN SERVICE: Well, if you like Asian babes, car babes, lesbian babes, topless babes, and street racing babes, then you will get your fill with this film.  It's hot babes, tight tops and fast cars all the way!

CONCLUSION

Okay, here's  the truth.  I am NOT a car guy.  Other than they run on gas, need oil every 5000 miles, and that the cooler the car, the more the police( and women) chase you, I know nothing. I am a total auto virgin.

Watching Street Fury Gold, I realized I am not even in the same dimension as these folks.  If I ever approached these guys, they wouldn't even use the ultimate put down of "The Fast and The Furious" on me.  In fact, I'd be darn lucky to rate a "get out of here motherf----r!"  These are not guys to try out  the slick car talk they learned from reading Maxim or watching NASCAR.  These guys and girls are only interested in the real thing.

This is a documentary made by, with, and in the world of pure racing enthusists.   These people get a thrill driving really fast, showing off their custom car, and outracing the police.  Spending tons of money to make their car go 2 seconds faster is nothing compared to the street credit they earn.  Outsiders are not wanted.  Show off's are definately not wanted.  The movie Fast and The Furious was an insult to true import car racers.  So long as you put your money where you mouth is and truley love this sport, you'll be welcomed into their world with open arms.

Even this world is changing.  I learned that the sport is fast becoming "legitimized". This due to events like the Import Drag Racing Circuit  supported by the major car manufactures.  I found out that there are companies, who's sole purpose in life is to design, build, and supply the parts needed for Street Racers.  I was also introduced to something that is still a rarity in the street racing world, female street racers.  The most important thing I learned was that Aiko, a true Japanese import, has nude pictures on her web site!

Still, there was a bunch of stuff I could have done with out.

First thing I could do with out, Skyn and Dreds.  Whenever  these two morons see a modified import car, they chase it down to see what he has under the hood.  At the rate they are going, someone is gonna pop a cap in their ass.

Another thing I could do with out is all the ass jiggling.  Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with nudity or women strutting their stuff.  But, after I see it every other scene, over and over, I got sick of it. At least Aiko has more class than the rest of them.  She has turned being a car babe into a career.

Last, but not least, the camera work.  In an attempt to be hip, the film is full of weird angels, quick zooms, and sped up film.  While this may work for some, for me, it looked amateurish and very un-hip.

If you thought the Fast and The furious was a great film (just don't admit it out loud), and the release of Initial-D makes you excited, then pick up Street Fury Gold.  You may learn a few things.
